Fall at Elk Mountain Riding Company in Newland, NC

The 2024 Fall season is upon us, and we are gearing up for a fun and colorful season!

As always, the high country has no shortage of fall events, which bring tens of thousands of visitors to our area each year. Some fall highlights in our area the Wooly Worn Festival, Valle Crucis Country Fair, The Land of Oz, Octoberfest, just to name a few! There is something here for everyone - including the most spectacular, horseback and UTV rides in western North Carolina - right here at Elk Mountain Riding Company!

We have put together a list of quick tips for all of our fall-loving fans who plan on making a trip to our area We hope you find it useful!

  1. Make reservations EARLY. The best adventures and restaurants fill up quickly!

  2. Show up ON TIME. If you are expected to be at your destination 15 minutes prior, then get as close to that time as possible. An hour or half hour ahead is not needed. 15 minutes late is not good. If you arrive earlier than expected, then be respectful of your hosts/guides, and don’t make them feel hurried or rushed. Be mindful that they may have other customers or tasks to attend to during that time.

  3. Be prepared and flexible! Weather here can literally change by the minute. Be sure to pack for all seasons while visiting in the month of October. Don’t let a little cold or wet weather dampen your plans! The fall colors are actually much more vivid during overcast and dreary weather (take our word)!

  4. Don’t forget to shop local and tip your servers and guides! For many, the fall season is their last consistent money-earning season of the year!

  5. Check dates for large events in the area, and plan accordingly. Traffic literally comes to halt in the small towns hosting such events. You may choose to stay outside of town limits and travel in, if you plan to see a lot of different sites!

  6. Don’t forget the Blue Ridge Parkway! It is breathtakingly beautiful, and FREE! Just be sure to go early or late in the day to avoid the big crowds.

  7. Consider booking your guided adventures on a weekday versus a weekend day. Many times, it isn’t near as crowded or busy - which makes it much more pleasurable for everyone.

Last but not least, we would LOVE to see you here at the riding company! It’s our favorite time of year. We are already experiencing full dates, so please be sure to make your reservation as soon as possible. Happy Trails!
